Alheimurinn virðist vera fullur af hulduefni og hulduorku — dularfullum fyrirbærum sem leynast á meðal stjarnanna, plánetanna og vetrarbrautanna. Þessi venjulegu stjarnfræðilegu fyrirbæri sem við rannsökum með venjulegum sjónaukum virsast vera aðeins 5% of heildarorku alheimsins. Í þessum fyrirlestri mun ég lýsa stærstu spurningunum í nútímaeðlisfræði: Hvað er hulduefni og hulduorka og hvaða áhrif hafa þessi fyrirbæri á framtíð alheimsins? Á leiðinni mun ég fjalla um mikilvægar uppgötvanir sem hafa sannfært vísindasamfélagið um tilvist þessara fyrirbæra og ræða þær tilraunir sem er ætlað að varpa frekara ljósi á þau, meðal annars Rubin sjónaukann í Atacama-eyðimörkinni í Chile.
